It was a bit surprising to see some washed up celebrity trending on Google today. Why? They, along with 50 other parents, were charged by the Justice Department in a bribery scheme to get their kids into college.
“This case is about the widening corruption of elite college admissions through the steady application of wealth combined with fraud,” said Andrew Lelling, U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts, which is leading the prosecution.
College tuition has more than doubled since the year 2000. Admission to elite schools will favor the privileged as long as income inequality widens and the cost of college rises.
